The Children and Young People Improvement Collaborative (CYPIC) brings together the Early Years Collaborative (EYC) and the Raising Attainment for All (RAfA) programme to deliver quality improvement throughout the child's journey using the Scottish Government's three-step improvement framework for Scotland's Public Services.

South Lanarkshire has played an active part in the collaborative since the beginning in 2013.  Our key objectives was to create the environment for improvement work using the framework to support changes leading to better outcomes for children and families and to build networks of support for practitioners using the model to share learning and build their confidence in using the approach as part of their practice.

Research tells us that a good start in the first few years of life is the most important thing we can give to a child.  But we also know that children and their families continue to need information, advice and support at various points throughout their lives.  There is a widening gap in what children achieve and how healthy they are depending on where they live and the kinds of challenges they live with.

The approach provides a way for us to plan and carry out improvements in our work - either making something we already do even better, or allowing us to make sure that any new work we do has the impact we want it to have.
