CYPIC is a collaborative Quality Improvement Programme led by the Scottish Government and aims to make Scotland the best possible place to grow up and the best place to learn.  This means doing more to ensure that the Getting it Right for Every Child approach is at the heart of our service delivery, and that we are working together to improve our services in a scientific and organised way across South Lanarkshire.

The stretch outcome aims focus on delivering quality improvement throughout a child journey from pre-birth to leaving school.  It involves staff from midwifery and health visiting services, early year’s staff, child care, housing, leisure, social work, money advice services, Police, regeneration and our partners in the Third Sector.  Further information on the national CYPIC can be found on the National Approach page.

CYPIC promotes an approach to improvement using a model (the Model for Improvement, sometimes known as Improvement Science).  In South Lanarkshire we feel this methodology provides us with a way of addressing improvement for services that support the child at all points in his or her journey through life.  We are working with staff in services for children and families to use the model for improvement as the tool to support their normal approach to improvement.

We are using this approach to address priorities for improvement which we have identified as part of our work in the Getting it Right for South Lanarkshire's Children Partnership.  The main themes coming from this work includes:

  • Parenting support
  • Developmental milestones (speech, language and child development)
  • Vulnerable groups (substance misuse in pregnancy and care experienced children and young people)
  • Addressing child poverty
  • Literacy and numeracy
  • Health and wellbeing for school age children

You will find details of our work on these areas on the Improvement Activity page.

A programme of training and support in the use of the model is available.  Details can be found on the Model for Improvement page.
